Thailand is keen to explore tourism and trade cooperation with Sarawak, says its ambassador to Malaysia Narong Sasitorn.?He said sustainable tourism was a potential area where Thailand and Sarawak could work together.
?I?m excited by what I?ve seen so far in terms of the tourism potential in Sarawak and I think you can achieve more success in this area.??As your tourism industry grows, one challenge is sustainability and this is something we can cooperate on,? he told a press conference here.
Sasitorn, who was making his first visit to Sarawak, said trade was another area of mutual interest that could be developed.?He said Malaysia was Thailand?s largest trading partner in Asean, with bilateral trade recording a 16% growth in January to September this year.
?We look at Sarawak as a potential business partner with Thailand. At the moment there is no direct economic partnership between Thailand and Sarawak.
?We would like to connect traders in Thailand and Sarawak, and create direct trade links. We would also like to encourage two-way trade, with products from Sarawak going to Thailand, such as agriculture produce and commodities,? he said.
Sasitorn also said he was interested to find out more about projects in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) as well as the state?s drive towards digitalisation.??This is something that Thailand is keen on and we hope to learn how we can be involved,? he said.
